About The Artist

Artist Janet Zeh of Zeh Original Art New England artist, Janet Zeh (pronounced "Zay"), started drawing early on. She drew on anything as soon as she could hold a crayon. When there was not any paper available, the wallpaper on the wall would do. Windowsills were great because she could close the curtains to hide the evidence. Her parents claim she somehow even got high enough to color near the ceiling in the hopes that no one would see!

Janet found an acceptable outlet for her desire to draw when she began formal art training with a private tutor at age eight. Later, she studied art at Nazareth College of Rochester, Southern Connecticut State University and Rhode Island School of Design. While raising her three sons, she worked for eighteen years as a part-time free-lance illustrator in pen and ink. In 1994 she began painting with watercolor and fell in love with the medium. "There is something about the flow of watercolors that is  exciting.  The colors mixing on the paper can take my breath away. I can hardly wait to go to my easel in the morning to paint!" A typical painting starts either with a photo she has taken or a sketch or painting she has done on site.

In addition to watercolors, Janet paints in oils and acrylics. She takes commissions for indoor and outdoor nature and garden murals for both the public and private sector. She has designed and painted theatrical sets and backdrops for two full length ballets and illustrated half a dozen botanical and geologic books for the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection in pen and ink and digital graphics.

Janet's love of the outdoors continues to this day. She finds a certain peace in nature that is evident in her work.  She likes to spend time walking in the woods or at the beach, mountain climbing, and gardening in her studio gardens.

About Zeh Original Art - Caring for your painting

image Great care is taken to ensure that your art piece will continue to look as fresh as the day it was painted for a very long time. In fact, watercolor, oil and acrylic paintings will last for many, many decades if proper materials are used in their construction. All Zeh Original Art is made with archival, acid-free materials and professional grade paints. The best pigments are chosen from a range of highly permanent colors. This means that your painting will not fade with time.

Even so, there are a few things you can do to help preserve your art. Keeping your painting out of direct sunlight is a good first precaution to take. Install paintings where the direct sun will not shine on them or use sheer curtains to filter the light.

Watercolor paintings on paper need a glass covering and an acid-free mat to keep the painting from touching the glass which contains acid. All matted Zeh Original Watercolors have both an acid-free mat and acid-free backing.

Zeh Original Acrylic paintings and watercolors on canvas or board are protected with a coat of clear varnish and do not need a glass front. They may be cleaned with a soft cloth dampened with plain water if needed.

Zeh Original Oil paintings which are less than six months old are shipped to you unvarnished. Varnish cannot be safely used before six months as oil paints take that long to thoroughly dry. Varnish added before then will crack. If, after six months, you wish to varnish an oil painting for protection, use varnish designed for paintings in order to avoid yellowing. You can find a good spray varnish at an art supply store. Clean oil paintings with a soft cloth slightly dampened with plain water and allow to dry for a few days before varnishing.
